In year 1 we have been looking at monitoring the weather.
Last week we made out ‘Rain Gauges’. This week we took them outside and positioned them all around the school grounds ready for the rain!!
To make our Rain Gauges we used an old bottle. We took the bottle top off, cut the top of the bottle off and turned it upside down like a funnel. We then decorated out bottles to make sure we knew who’s was who’s.
In an attempt to stop our bottles from falling over in the wind we put some stones inside – unfortunately some of them still fell over!! However, some did withstand the windy weather and we were able to have a go at measuring the rainfall over the week.
Below are some pictures of us collecting our Rain Gauges this morning!!
I have sent the Rain Gauges home for you to have a go at using over half term – perhaps you could position them somewhere in your garden or by your front door.
A great half term for everybody in Year 1! Well done everyone – now go and enjoy a well deserved rest!
