Spellings
Next week’s words are:
find
behind
wild
child
climb
Parents: We will now be following the year 2 curriculum for spellings. The first few weeks mostly focus on homophones – words that sound the same but are spelt differently. Although these words may seem ‘easy’ to spell it is really important that the children understand the meaning of the different spellings and how to use them correctly in context. They will need to choose the correct spelling pattern for the word needed to make the sentence make sense when being tested. Other words are taken from the common exception words for year 2. The children are being taught strategies for learning spellings as part of their work at school. Please encourage them to practice at home during the week and carry out an occasional test to prepare them for Friday morning. When your children are confident spelling the words please encourage them to use them in sentences. This will help with understanding and using the words in context. They could also explore more homophones with these spelling patterns and bring them to school to share with us. They will be tested by writing the words in dictated sentences.
Mental Maths Facts
Learn to recall the division facts for the ten times table facts, in order, from memory.
Test: write the sequence of division facts in order. E.g. 10 ÷ 10 = 1, 20 ÷ 10 = 2, 30 ÷ 10 = 3, etc to 120 ÷ 10 = 12
