Our PHSE lessons this half term are all about ‘Healthy Me’.
We have been looking at the importance of eating a balanced diet and what this really means. Of course, lots of us know that too much sugar isn’t good and that it is important to eat fruit and vegetables. However, it is OK to have treats and it is important that we have a little bit of everything. We have started to look at food groups and what each group gives our bodies. It was interesting to find out that if you only ever ate fruit you actually wouldn’t be very healthy! Lots of us were quite surprised about this.
After learning about food and nutrition and how this affects our body we started to look at keeping fit and active. Lots of us take part in clubs outside of school, swimming, gymnastics, football and many many more which is great! We have been looking at how we should aim to be active for at least 60minutes a day. Now this doesn’t have to be running around like crazy!! It could be going for a walk, or playing a game with our friends and families. Below you can see some of the super posters that we made suggesting different activities that you could do to get your 60minutes daily exercise. Why not try some of these out at home over the weekend, can you think of any different ways to keep fit and active?
Initially we thought that 60minutes a day sounded like a lot of time. However, we worked out that if we are outside for breaktime, lunchtime play and afternoon play, we could fulfill our 60minute daily activity at school! Meaning any extra at home us a bonus – WOW! We are such an active bunch in Year 1.
Below are some pictures of us playing on the tyres and the climbing frame, keeping active and having fun.
Finally we have learnt about the importance of rest. Of course being active and having fun is really important, but our bodies and our minds need time to rest and recover. This is very important for our physical and mental health, helping us feel ready for the day ahead!
Well done Year 1 – some really reflective learning this half term in PHSE.
Jigsaw Jack is really proud of you!
