We had a brilliant afternoon at Poole Lighthouse watching the new kickass-pirational high-energy, feel-good pop musical Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World adapted from Kate Pankhurst’s bestselling book.

In the story, the heroine Jade gets separated from her class on a trip to their local museum. She feels like no one notices she’s missing. In fact she feels like no one notices her at all. Feeling dejected, she decides to take a peek behind the scenes at the not yet open Gallery of Greatness where she meets inspirational women from the past who share their story with Jade and help her to find her own voice.

Along her journey she meets the original and incredible wonder women: Amelia Earhart, Gertrude Ederle, Sacagawea, Jane Austen, Frida Kahlo, Emmeline Pankhurst, Mary Seacole, Mary Anning, Marie Curie, Agent Fifi, Rosa Parks and Anne Frank.

Jade thinks she can’t make a difference because she is just an ordinary person but as she meets explorers, artists, authors and scientists she learns that there is no such thing as an ordinary woman and that we all have the power to change the world in our own way. It was moving, funny and empowering and the songs were great.

The trip was offered to all children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 and it was a real treat for those who came along. My thanks go to Miss Savage and Mrs Kench who both gave up their afternoon off to accompany the children on this trip.
