This afternoon as part of our ‘Traders and Raiders’ topic, we learnt all about some truly amazing discoveries made by archaeologists at Sutton Hoo, Suffolk in 1939.
Underneath a large mound on private land were the remains of an Anglo-Saxon ship burial, complete with many treasures such as the Sutton Hoo helmet. It is thought that this grave could have been the burial site for a Saxon king, King Raedwald of East Anglia.
After learning about some of the unearthed artefacts in more detail and asking lots of thoughtful questions, we set to work creating our own virtual museums, using Google Slides to display some of the important discoveries that were made at Sutton Hoo.
We needed to work reciprocally with our partners, sharing the roles of ‘researcher’ and ‘designer’. The researcher was tasked with selecting relevant information from a variety of sources. It was the role of the designer to insert and manipulate text and images – considering size, style, colour and layout and ensuring that the text on each slide was clear to read. We then began to incorporate video clips linked to our chosen artefacts.
Great work Year 4!
