Today, a group of children from years 3 and 4 were chosen to participate in a football festival geared towards girls’ participation in football.

The children began by doing a large warm-up with several other schools and then went round visiting various activity stations in which they learnt different footballing skills. Budmouth students led the activities and it was nice to see some ex-Southill pupils leading them. The children then participated in some friendly football matches against other schools in order to put their new skills and knowledge of the game to the test!

I have to say, it was one of the coldest sporting events I have even been on. Despite the streaming noses, red hands and knees knocking together, the children remained resilient for the entire morning and represented Southill magnificently! I could not be prouder of them and I hope they enjoyed the event (despite the arctic temperatures).

All the children received a certificate for their participation and one child at Southill even received a medal for being ‘player of the tournament’ which speaks volumes as to how impressive all the girls were today.
