This week, Year 6 have got stuck into their new art project ‘Abstraction and Distortion‘.

First, we learnt about the concepts of abstraction and distortion and the characteristics of each. Focusing first on distortion, we created our own art by cutting up observational drawings and re-imaging them to create different levels of distortion.

We then looked at a range of different examples from well-known artists, including Wassily Kadinsky and Kazimir Malevich and how these artists use shape, colour and line to create different effects.

Next, we learnt about abstraction by colour and abstraction by line. We explored a range of different artwork and created our own inspired by these examples.
