Outdoor maths

Why not try some of these outdoor ideas.

Count things. For example – how many lampposts are on our street? How many houses have a red door? How many dogs can you count in a day?  different version to play is the ‘bin game’: five points for every bin you see. It’s silly but it gets competitive and you have to be strict about who sees a bin first!

Look for numbers on doors, buses, cars, signs, at the shops – anywhere! Remember to talk about what the numbers mean when you see them.

The name dandelion comes from “dent-de-lion” in French, which means “lion’s tooth,” for the dandelion’s jagged leaves.

All parts of the dandelion plant are edible from their stems, leaves, roots and flowers.

Dandelions grow on every continent except for one – Antarctica.

Dandelions are an important food source for wildlife like bees and birds.

As a fun Western tradition, blow the seeds from a mature dandelion ball and make a wish.
