Yesterday, pupils from years 3, 5 and 6 were treated to a very special morning out. They went to Poole Lighthouse to watch the amazing Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra performing their show “Explore the Orchestra: Dance, Dance, Dance!”, led by the brilliantly talented composer James Redwood. Designed especially for KS2 children, and free to enter, this incredible concert explored the history of dance music from early baroque times right up to the 1970s with a rendition of ABBA’s Dancing Queen! Some very famous classical pieces were performed, including The Blue Danube Waltz by Strauss, Dance of the Knights by Prokofiev and Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy by Tchaikovsky. The concert included some excellent original compositions by James Redwood, which had some really fun audience participation parts for the children to get involved with. It was also a great educational experience, because not only did the children get to see a full symphony orchestra play in a stunning venue, they also learnt about the different sections of the orchestra too! All the pupils said they had a great time and found the music to be really exciting. It was a pleasure to take them on this trip, and we certainly hope to do it again next year!
