In our writing lessons this week, Year 3 have been looking at ‘Direct Speech’ and how to use inverted commas to show speech within their writing.
We started off by looking at some speech bubbles and typical things that some teachers are renowned for saying! The children then used some inverted commas (on sticks) to correctly punctuate the speech.
Next, the children explored words to use INSTEAD OF SAID to help describe how the speech was spoken and wrote their own sentences using a variety of synonyms for said. The children were super engaged with this activity and came up with some brilliant alternatives to said.
I am already looking forward to reading their ‘Rags to Riches’ tale at the end of the unit where I am sure they will be demonstrating what they have learnt this week.
“Great work, Year 3!” cheered Miss Hutton.
