During one of our History lessons this week, the children became archaeologists and used evidence to find out what life in the Stone Age might have been like living in the prehistoric settlement, Skara Brae – located in the Orkney Islands, Scotland.

The children had 6 pieces of evidence to explore before sharing what their evidence told them about what life might have been like in Skara Brae.

They found out that:

• The village of Skara Brae was built from slabs of stone.
• Tools, crops and bone remains showed that the villagers were skilled fishermen, hunters and farmers.
• Artefacts of  jewellery, pins and combs showed us they were very creative!
• Cattle and sheep bones showed us that the types of meat they ate.
• There was no evidence of metal which helped us to work out that Skara Brae was built during the Neolithic Period (towards the end of the Stone Age).
