Our trip to Stonehenge…

Well, well, well – it was most definitely worth the wait… what a superb day we have had AND in the glorious sunshine!

As we arrived at the monument, it was a special moment for the children, as it really brought to life all they have learned so far during our project. Next, we were given a guided tour of Stonehenge and were able to finally see the the ginormous sarsen stones with our own eyes and hear about the theories of how it was really built. The children really impressed our tour guides (and me!) with their prior knowledge of the Stone Age –  not to mention the fact they were able to name the 3 parts to it as well; Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic (great job, Year 3!). They also listened attentively to soak up more knowledge from the Stonehenge experts, which I am sure they will love sharing with you.

We then got to see how a ‘burial’ would have taken place thousands of years ago and learned that if you were a really important person you would be buried with gold!

After a yummy lunch, we hopped back on the shuttle bus and made our way to the ‘360 Gallery’ experience where the children were able to see how Stonehenge looks during the winter and summer solstice. This was very cool!

Last stop, gift shop!  – I have to say, I was so impressed with how the children managed their spending money and used their maths knowledge to work out how much they could afford and what change they would get.

It really was such a pleasure accompanying Year 3 on this trip and it has made me even more excited for our next trip to Leeson House. Well done Year 3 – I am confident you will all sleep well tonight!

Thank you so much for taking year 3 for their first long distance trip. I cannot imagine how much organising and paperwork it took to get them there but we really appreciate it. Ostin had a fab time and I’m blown away with his knowledge. Thank you Miss Hutton and the rest of the staff.

  2. I really enjoyed this trip, I loved learning about the sarsen stones, blue stones, heel stone and slaughter stone.

Fabulous! George had a brilliant time and has told us all about how Stonehenge was built, what it all looked like and about the toilets on the coach! Honestly, this has been a wonderful experience and he’s proud to have his magnet to remind him of it. Thank you so much Miss Hutton and to everyone who helped.
