As part of our Science project this week, Year 3 carried out our first investigation of the year. The aim of our investigation was to find out which food was the fattiest. In order to make this a fair test, we had to make sure we kept all variables the same (the amount of each food we tested, how we carried out the test and leaving all foods for 1 hour before seeing our results) and only change 1 thing (the type of food).
Firstly, we made predictions and recorded this in a table. Then we completed the investigation, by taking small samples from 6 different types of food (potato crisps, vegetable crisps, rice cakes, biscuits, crackers and chocolate) and leaving them on a piece of baking paper. We left them for 1 hour before seeing which food left the most fat on the paper (as pictured below) . This told us which food was the fattiest. Lastly, we recorded our results in the table next to our predictions and had a thoughtful discussion about what we had found out and the things that surprised us . I am confident that Year 3 will be able to tell you all about what we discussed and it may even surprise you too!
Well done Year 3, you super scientists!
George told us all about the experiment and we too were surprised by the results. Well done year 3. What a super investigation!
