#LetGirlsPlay Football Festival
The sun was shining down on us today as 10 girls from years 3 and 4 participated in a whole day of football! The aim of the festival was to inspire girls to participate in football and there were representatives from Weymouth Football Club and Redlands watching over proceedings.
During the morning, the children took part in various skills and drills in order to develop their footballing ability. These focused on: teamwork, communication, passing, dribbling, shooting coordination and spatial awareness. The children did brilliantly, listening to the Budmouth Sports Leaders really well and developing their footballing skills and knowledge, ready for the afternoon.
After a bite to eat, the children then competed in some friendly football matches against the other primary schools in attendance. Here is how we got on:
Southill 3 – 0 Bincombe
Southill 4 – 0 Conifers
Southill 2 – 0 Wyke Regis
Southill 0 – 0 Holy Trinity
Southill 1 – 1 Chickerell
That’s right…Southill did not lose a single match! We won three and drew two. Considering some of the girls had never played a football match before, they picked up the rules extremely quickly, worked well as a team and all played to their strengths. The festival concluded with all children being awarded a medal (donated by Weymouth Football Club) for participating with enthusiasm and energy.
A huge thank you to Natalie and Carly for helping to transport the children safely down to Budmouth, thank you to the sports leaders at Budmouth for delivering such an action-packed and fun day of football (great to see so many sports leaders who came from Southill Primary) and finally well done to the children who represented the school admirably!
