Today marks the start of ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก ๐๐ฐ๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ฌ๐ฌ ๐๐๐๐ค, the biggest opportunity for the whole of the UK to come together to focus on getting good mental health. The theme this year is โ๐๐ฐ๐ท๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ฆ๐ฏ๐ตโ, recognising the huge benefits being physically active can bring to not just our bodies, but our minds too. Even as little as half an hour of daily exercise can make a big difference to how we feel.
We embrace many ways of keeping active here at Southill Primary, our pupils enjoy a wide variety of activities often led by our own team of Bronze Ambassadors who help to plan and host several elements of our curriculum. Our Daily Mile acts as a handy go-to activity to refresh and recharge, along with our purpose-built play equipment including climbing frames with physical age-appropriate challenges and our terrific PE curriculum of course. We also enjoy sporting clubs, Fitness Thursdays and our Bike Bus too of course.
As a school we are dedicated to building childrenโs resilience and nurturing their wellbeing and mental health. As part of this commitment, classes take part in โStormbreakโ sessions which help to develop this aspect of our wider curriculum. These daily sessions are designed to improve childrenโs mental health through movement and are also great fun! The ultimate aim is that through working with Stormbreak, we are able to equip children with sustainable, transferable skills and coping strategies to thrive during the complex demands of growth into adult life.
Stormbreak activities link to several key concepts – resilience, self care, relationships, self-worth and hope and optimism and teachers are able to choose and tailor sessions to suit their classes. This week, weโll focus on the theme of movement.
Feel free to ask any of us for tips and tricks on looking after your mind. Weโre Wellbeing Wizards and weโre also experts at having a positive mindset too!
