In today’s Maths lesson, we learnt all about angles of a polygon and how to find the sum of the interior angles of different polygons. We started by discussing what a polygon is and which interior angles we already knew: we had previously learnt that interior angles in a triangle sum to 180 degrees, and the interior angles of a quadrilateral sum to 360 degrees.
We then moved on to investigating how to find the sum of the interior angles of polygons such as: pentagons, hexagons, heptagons, octagons, nonagons, decagons and even dodecagons!
After spotting a pattern between the number of sides a polygon has, and the number of triangles which can be made in that polygon, we learnt a formula to follow so that we could calculate the sum of the interior angles. It is fair to say this required a lot of resilience and reflective thinking!
The class really impressed me with this perseverance in order to grasp this tricky concept!
Great work Year 6!
