It was another wonderful afternoon out in our beautiful school grounds at Forest School starting with some challenging team games which helped to focus us on working together and communicating well; this has improved so much over the weeks. Everyone had ideas and shared them clearly and concisely. There was a lot of reflection on how to improve and adapt ideas too. Our listening skills are improving too! Everyone joined in too to make the challenges a success, even if some of us did get little wet. What great resilience and how great to experience that success together! We also took part in a fairy scavenger hunt – collecting all colours of the rainbows from nature but they could only be tiny pieces, because they were for the fairies!
A super den was made in the woods and was then played in. The muddy kitchen was open with delights such as octopus spaghetti with black ink and hot chocolate. Lots of games were played – blindfolded Marco Polo was a great invention! Some children enjoyed using the flint and steel to light cotton wool and learnt how to feed the fire ready for cooking marshmallows on there. These were then made into s’mores. I am told that they were rather yummy!
Before we went back into school, we were saddened to see one of the hammock trees had been damaged as bark had been peeled off the trunk. We always carefully put felt protection around the tree when we put hammocks up to make sure that the tree is not damaged. The Forest Schoolers decided to become ‘Tree Warriors’ and to help and protect the trees. They decided they could explain and educate other children in the school about the importance of trees and green spaces and hopefully stop any further damage. It was lovely to witness their passion and stewardship towards nature and our trees.
