The Ridge – Short Burst Writing

The Ridge – Short Burst Writing

This week, we watched the video you can see above called ‘The Ridge’ which follows in the footsteps of Danny Macaskill as he aims to mountain bike his way up the Isle of Skye. The children’s jaws dropped when they saw just how steep and dangerous the ride became and were blown away with Danny’s skill and precision on a bike. Feeling inspired, we then began to produce a piece of writing, focusing mainly on describing the picturesque views of Scotland that Danny experienced. The children were also required to build suspense in their piece of writing in order to reflect just how dangerous the ride became.

I was absolutely BLOWN away by the writing produced by the children today. They thought carefully about their audience and used a broad range of writing skills in order to describe the setting and build suspense. Short sentences, similes, metaphors, personification, expanded noun phrases, impressive vocabulary, fronted adverbials…You name it, Year 4 used it (and used it effectively).

Well done, Year 4. You are all such talented writers!
