With school photos taking place in the hall, children dressed smartly in their uniforms, and snow falling gently outside, it would have been tempting to skip PE this afternoon. However, Year 5 understands the importance of physical education and were determined to stay active. So, we improvised! We pushed tables and chairs to one side and transformed our classroom into our very own ‘Yoga Studio.’

To set the mood, we listened to a calming piece of music, discussing how its slow and steady rhythm made it perfect for yoga practice. We also talked about the importance of smooth transitions between poses and the role of controlled breathing in enhancing focus and relaxation.

After watching yours truly demonstrate a yoga workout (no laughing, please!), the children were given a sheet of yoga poses designed to build core strength and flexibility. Their task? To create their own yoga routines, think about how they would guide others, and ensure seamless transitions between each pose.

I was absolutely blown away by their attitude, effort, and creativity! Several groups volunteered to lead the class through their thoughtfully crafted routines, and we all thoroughly enjoyed practicing poses like downward dog, crouching tiger, forward fold, and high plank. The creativity and skill on display were truly remarkable!

I suspect some of the children (and perhaps the teacher too!) might wake up feeling a little sore after all those poses. But it was a wonderful experience, and I couldn’t be prouder of Year 5’s enthusiasm and teamwork.
