As mathematicians we have been finding out about the concept of zero. We learn that the number name ‘zero’ and the numeral 0 can be used to represent this idea. We noticed where we can see ‘zero’. For example, we may notice zero cookies on a plate or see zero leaves on a tree. To help us with this we shared the story Zero is the Leaves on the Tree by Betsy Franco.

We used this book as inspiration for noticing zero around us. Then we decided to create our own ‘zero leaves’ art by printing winter trees. We used the long and short sides of rulers, dipped in paint to create a winter forest.
