Let Girls Play

Today, children from Years 3 and 4 took part in a fantastic football festival/tournament at Budmouth Academy. The day began with a series of football-based stations designed to develop their close control, passing, movement, shooting, and teamwork. Despite some heavy showers, the children remained resilient all morning, giving 100% effort throughout.

After a well-earned lunch break, the children were placed in a group with Beechcroft and Radipole. Across three pitches, with 12 teams in total, only the two teams that won the most games and/or scored the most goals would progress to the final. We played against both Beechcroft and Radipole twice in our group, and here’s how we got on:

Game 1

Southill 70 Radipole

Scorers: Delilah, Connie (4), Gracie, and an own goal

Game 2

Southill 50 Beechcroft

Scorers: Connie (4), Darcie

Game 3

Southill 70 Radipole

Scorers: Connie (4), Darcie, Gracie, and an own goal

Game 4

Southill 90 Beechcroft

Scorers: Elsie (5), Gracie (2), Delilah (2)

Southill played exceptionally well, securing a place in the final with ease! Our opponents were a combined team from Bincombe Valley and Wyke Regis, but we were ready for the challenge. Unfortunately, we narrowly lost 1-0, but I couldn’t be prouder of the children for their tenacity, effort, and enthusiasm throughout the day.

To top it all off, each child was awarded a medal in recognition of their hard work and dedication—a fantastic way to end an incredible day!

A huge thank you to Carmel and Nicky for kindly transporting the children to Budmouth this morning. It’s wonderful to see the Southill community always coming together to support the school at events like this.

On a separate note, I felt immense pride seeing so many former Southill pupils as sports leaders running the event today. Sophie, Lucie, Bella, Erin, and Martha were all there, showing just how passionate Southill is about providing equal opportunities for girls in football.
