English task
Today, we will be continuing our learning about ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker’ and we’d like you to innovate the story to create your own ‘Elves and the Shoemaker’ story.
Today will be the planning stage so, just as we do at school, we’d like you to use the story map you drew last week to plan your new story on.
Simply, decide what you are going to change, for example, will the elves help somebody else instead of the shoemaker? If so, cover the pictures of the shoemaker and draw your new character that the elves will help. What problem does your new character have and how will the elves help them? Cover the relevant pictures and draw your ideas for your new story. Then, give your story a new name.
An example: Your new character might be a zookeeper who needs help to feed all of the animals in the zoo. (Thanks Sienna for this great idea!) Each night, your elves feed all of the animals therefore solving the zookeeper’s problem. Your story would be called ‘The Elves and the Zookeeper.’
When you have created your innovated story map, try telling your story to someone using as much story language as you can.
Arithmetic task
Counting back in 3s game – Ask someone to set 20 seconds on the clock. When you’re ready, start the timer and count back in 3s from 36, writing each number as you say it. See how far you can get in 20 seconds. Try again and see if you can get closer to 3.
To increase the challenge, reduce the time, only give yourself 10 seconds and see if you can write all the multiples of 3 in order from 36 to 3.
Maths task
Here are the answers to yesterday’s worksheet pages.
Today is the last day we will be learning about volume so we’d like you to show us what you have learnt throughout the chapter.
First, have a go at the ‘Mind Workout’ on page 170 of the Workbook. Talk to someone about the problem and then draw pictures to help you solve it. The solutions will be revealed tomorrow.
Then, have a go at the ‘Chapter Review’ on pages 171-172. Use everything you’ve learnt from the chapter to solve the problems and be a resilient learner and do as much as you can.
