Marvellous Monday!
Welcome to another week exploring ‘Out and About’. This week we will be looking at buildings around us.
Phonics: Letters and Sounds Lesson 40 – today we have one more lesson looking at longer words.
This week we will be using buildings to inspire us with our learning. Watch this video of someone reading a book called Home by Carson Ellis. It is an interesting book looking at lots of different types of homes. There are some beautiful illustrations to look out for too. If you need to, pause the video to talk about some of the pages.
Picture of the day: Do you recognise these buildings? Talk about where these buildings are and what we use them for. Then write about them – try one of these sentence starters: This is……… That is…….. At…….. I go…….. The……. We went……
Maths: A mixture of activities this week. Today,we start with an activity card – Building Towers. You will need lots of blocks of various shapes – both hollow and solid. Have a look around for any food packaging/recycling you could use too. The most important aspect today is the talking whilst you are building – look at the card for ideas. The second card gives you ideas of how you can change the activity for a challenge.
Other Activities
Building and Construction: Use different construction kits (lego, Duplo, Sticklebricks, blocks…) to try making models of different buildings you know. It could be our school, or the outdoor classroom. Or you could try other buildings from around Weymouth!
Getting Outside: Go outside today to explore different textures in buildings. Take some paper with you and a few wax crayons. This is just like our bark rubbings, but try this on different types of building materials – bricks, stone, wood, metal… Talk about and describe the different textures you can feel.
Some singing to wake us up today!
Here is the dance video!
