29th June

Marvellous Monday

Good morning! I hope you had a good weekend. This week we continue ‘Out and About’ – The world is full of wonders – let’s explore them.

Phonics: Letters and Sounds lesson 45. One more lesson looking at words with adjacent consonants before moving on to something else.

Story of the week: This is a beautiful book that encourages us to slow down and notice the tiny wonders around us as we go out and about. Lots to see on each page so look carefully. This is a link to someone reading the story and sharing the pictures – there is plenty of time to look at and discuss the tiny details on each page.

Tiny, perfect things by M.H Clark

Picture of the day: This helps us to think about tiny, perfect things. These are growing in my garden. Do you know what they are? How would you describe what you can see? Do you like eating them? Write a sentence to describe this picture – think about the colour, shapes and sizes as well as what they are.

Maths: A return to White Rose Maths this week and activities based around Oliver’s vegetables. This will certainly help us to think about tiny perfect things!

This link will take you to the main page – click on week beginning 29th June and choose Monday. Watch the video clip first then try some of the activities. If you don’t have time or the resources for all of the activities, I suggest looking at the talking together section then maybe colouring some patterns or making them with natural resources. Try the circular pattern.

Other Activities

Leaf Activities: Try one or more of these activities. You will need to collect some leaves first.

  • Leaf Printing
  • Leaf rubbing
  • Leaf threading

These ideas and others can be found on this activity card below.

Getting Outside: Take a bucket or bowl of water outside with you. Collect some natural objects – twigs, pebbles, leaves, petals, feather, seed… and put them in the water. Observe and talk about whether they float or sink. Remember that it isn’t always the larger things that sink – try a large leaf and a small pebble.

Something to watch: Enjoy finding out about floating with Maddie.
