A liquid is something you can pour and it spreads out. A liquid will flow unless it has something to stop it’s flow. But are all liquids the same?
What we tested.
We tested the speed of different liquid’s flow. We timed how long it took for each liquid to flow from the top of the ramp to the bottom. The liquids we tested were: lemonade, engine oil, double cream, tomato ketchup, washing up liquid and golden syrup.
What we found out
Below is a table that shows the data that we collected from our tests.
Liquids Time taken to get to the bottom of the ramp
engine oil 2 minutes 14 seconds
lemonade 3 seconds
golden syrup 31 minutes 25 seconds !
double cream 17 seconds
washing up liquid 13 minutes 50 seconds
tomato ketchup Did Not Move !
Our Conclusion
Not all liquids have the same viscosity (viscous means stickiness, not flowing freely). Out of all the liquids we tested, we now know that the lemonade had the least amount of viscosity and the tomato ketchup has the most viscosity.
The thicker the liquid the more viscous it is.
