Monday 4th May
Good morning everyone. I hope you are all well and have had a great weekend.
Maths No Problem
1st Answer pages for last Friday’s Lesson 1 Writing Amounts of Money
Today’s lesson: Chapter 9 Money Lesson 2 Writing Amounts of Money
Lesson Objective: To be able to write amounts of money as decimals.
Textbook pages: 63 – 65 Workbook pages 45 – 46
Lesson Notes: To begin this lesson, show pupils the In Focus task. Ask them to discuss which child has written the amount displayed correctly and share their answers.
State that we already know 10p = 1⁄10 of £1. What would 1p be? Display the image from Let’s Learn 1. How many 1p coins are equivalent to £1? How can we write 1p as a fraction of £1? How can we write 1p in £ as a decimal? Use the same process for 5p (Let’s Learn 2) and 50p (Let’s Learn 3), then work through Let’s Learn 4. Ask pupils if the children have written the amounts correctly. How do we know they are correct? What should we do to find the total?
During Guided Practice, pupils are writing amounts of money as decimals.

If you want some more maths to do, or perhaps a break from Maths No Problem, go to the link below. It is by White Rose Maths who have created some video lessons and associated worksheets (+answer sheets) for each year group. It is very good and self-explanatory. Have a look and see what you think.
Mental Maths / Arithmetic
Adding fractions with the same denominator
Here is a tutorial link to remind you
Open this pdf file to find a worksheet + answers (note … this worksheet has a page of additions fractions and a page of subtraction fractions – for tomorrow’s lesson). Don’t worry if you don’t have a printer, just copy out the questions in your exercise book. You don’t have to do all the questions on the sheet (there are loads).
Writing Task
This week I would like you to continue to write out your own innovated story using the plan that you made last week. Last Friday, you will have written the first section out (see page 19 in The King of Fishes booklet).
I would like you to continue to write 1 section each day so that you can focus on using the writer’s skills that you practiced last week and you can ensure that you have accurate spelling and punctuation.
So today, have a go at writing section 2 – page 20
If you wrote out the whole story last week then this week I would like you to practice your reading comprehension.
Open this link that will take you to Espresso
https://central.espresso.co.uk/espresso/modules/e2_comprehension_lks2/index.html
You might be asked for a username and password (maybe in another tab)
Username: student10987 Password: southill123
When the link opens, you will see 8 different books. Choose one, read the extract, take the quiz and answer the further questions.
Weekly Topic Task – Road Trip USA
This week the focus is on researching some famous icons (people) of the USA (past and present). In the file below there are 40 pictures of iconic people of the USA. Scroll through them. If you have a printer you could print them out and make a timeline of these people. Don’t worry if you don’t have a printer. You could pick 1 or 2 of the people (or more if you want) and find out (bullet point) some key facts/information about them. What makes them so iconic?
Spellings
Don’t forget to practice this week’s spellings: experience, experiment, extreme, famous, favourite
Make sure that you know the meaning of each word. Perhaps you could write sentences with the words in.
Reading
Please don’t forget to read today. ‘The more you read, the more you know. The more you know, the more places you will go.’ You should be able to access the book quizzes and don’t forget to go on Lexia (if you have a log in) for 15 minutes each day. Well done everyone.
