Good morning everyone. Hope you are all well. Here are today’s learning tasks. Good luck with them.
Here are the answers to yesterday’s mental maths questions. Which one have I got wrong this time?
51 x 100 = 5,100 62 x 100 = 6,200 49 x 100= 49,000 99 x 100 = 9900 87 x 100 = 8700
231 x 100 = 23,100 53 x 100 = 5,300 86 x 100= 8,600 123 x 100 = 12,300 425 x 100 = 42,500
Maths No Problem
Chapter 8 Decimals: Lesson 3 Writing Tenths
Textbook pages 8,9,10 Workbook pages 5 & 6
Today’s lesson looks at how a mixed number (eg 1.3) is represented on a number line.
Lesson Notes: To begin this lesson, show pupils the In Focus task and provide them with place-value charts and discs or moveable discs on an interactive whiteboard. In pairs, allow pupils time to discuss the problem and prove or disprove the children’s statements. Allow them a short time to feed back before modelling using the discs as exemplified in Let’s Learn.
Ask pupils to decide where to mark the value on the number line. Where should 1.2 be placed? Is it larger or smaller than 1? How much larger or smaller? In Let’s Learn 2, spend time clearly regrouping the 10 tenths into 1 whole. What is the same and what is different about these two values? What do you think we could do with 10 tenths? Have you done anything like this before? Demonstrate regrouping and discuss how the value is the same as in Let’s Learn 1. Encourage partners to discuss how we can record the value in different ways with the amount remaining unchanged.
During Guided Practice, pupils are writing the decimal equivalents of tenths. Allow them to work in pairs to discuss and raise any questions before deciding on how to complete the tasks. Remind them that if there are more than 10 tenths, they will have to regroup. Bring the class back together after Guided Practice and invite volunteers to explain the missing values on the number line.

Quick recall of number bonds of 100
51 + ? = 100 73 + ? = 100 84 + ? = 100 36 + ? = 100 62 + ? = 100
100 = ? + 36 100 = 75 + ? ? + 66 = 100 ? + 29 = 100 53 + ? = 100
Writing Task
A reading comprehension lesson today. VIPERS is an acronym for Vocabulary, Inference, Predict, Explain. Retrieve, Summarise. We use them in our class to answer different types of question from a text. If you want more details about them look at this link: Hyperlink to explain what VIPERS are
Open this link 1.-Find-Me-VIPERS
….. and you will find a short story with VIPER questions to answer. You don’t need to print the story or questions. I suggest that in your exercise book you write the title of the story, today’s date and then just answer each question. Do as many as you can.
Please don’t forget to read today. ‘The more you read, the more you know. The more you know, the more places you will go.’ You should be able to access the book quizzes and don’t forget to go on Lexia (if you have a log in) for 15 minutes each day. Well done everyone.
