Writing
I have a short film for you to watch this morning. Afterwards, click on the link to the Week Junior and read the discussion text really carefully – you will notice it is very relevant to the film.

Task:
The characters communicate via body language in the film and it is clear that they have very different opinions about their jobs as ‘whalers’. Rewatch the film and use the information contained in the Week Junior link above to write dialogue for the characters in ‘Catch a Lot’.
Write the dialogue in the form of a script and include ‘stage directions’ to identify what is happening so that your dialogue is synchronised with what is occuring in the film.
Every gesture, facial expression and roll of the eyes should be matched to a piece of dialogue to create a script for the film.
The conversation should include as many facts and opinions as possible from the Week Junior article. E.g. The son won’t merely shout, “Don’t do that!” to his father he will also tell him why he shouldn’t using a persuasive fact about what is wrong with whaling. The father would reply with a persuasive argument of his own. The tricky thing will be writing the facts and opinions in a way that fits what is occuring in the film! Good luck and have fun!

Today’s task:
Tips and hints: Only if you need them!
Q1. Read the scale very, very carefully before you draw lines on the chart!
Q2. Split the chart into four equal parts using feint pencil lines. Each of the parts = 90 degrees. Use this information to judge where to draw your lines to show the sports.
Q3. 40 = 360 degrees. Therefore 20 will be half that, 1 will be 40 times smaller (there are 40 ones in 40) and 8 will be 5 times smaller (there are 5 eights in 40). You will need to work out 11 by working out 10 degrees and then 1 degree and then adding your answers together.
