Daily Tasks – Wednesday 20th May

Wednesday 20th May

Good morning everybody.

Maths No Problem

1st the answers from Tues 19    Chp 10    Lesson 3

Today’s lesson: Chapter 10     Lesson 4

Lesson Objective: To be able to measure volume in litres using decimals.

Textbook pages:  96 – 99     Workbook pages   71 – 72

Lesson Notes: Let pupils know the focus of this lesson is on measuring volume. What do they already know about measuring volume? Show pupils the In Focus task and allow them to discuss the problem. Ask them what is the same and what is different about the containers. When pupils respond, ensure they refer to the height/width and the scales marked on the containers. Do we have to find the exact volume of the water to know which container has the greatest amount? How can we tell just by looking? What about the least amount of water? Can we tell just by looking?

Display the image from Let’s Learn 1. Prompt pupils with questions, such as: How many millilitres are there in 1 l? What do the scale increments represent? How many millilitres is each increment worth? How do we know? Repeat the same process for Let’s Learn 2 and 3. How many different ways can we write the same volume in litres?

Display the Guided Practice and ask pupils to decide what they should do first before matching the volumes, i.e. identify the increments on the scales and calculate the volume of each beaker. Display question 2 and ask pupils what they notice about the labels on the containers. Have a short discussion on where and how they would indicate the volume of 568 ml on the container. Then ask them to complete Guided Practice in pairs.

Mental Maths / Arithmetic

1st answers to yesterday’s mental maths questions:

749 ÷ 100 =  7.49        634 ÷ 100 =   6.34          765 ÷ 100 = 7.65        539 ÷ 100 = 5.39

601 ÷ 100 = 6.01             86 ÷ 100 = 0.86         63 ÷ 100 =  0.63            34 ÷ 100 =  0.34

86 ÷ 100 =   0.86            42 ÷ 100 = 0.42

Today, I would like you to practice multiplying a 3 digit number by a single digit number.

1st Watch this tutorial to remind you of what to do:

2nd Now solve these sums

324 x 3 =                 415 x 4 =                    241 x 5 =                    153 x 3 =                    231 x  4 =
