Friday 12th June

It’s Fantastic Friday!

We have had a great week looking up and finding out about clouds. Today we will try some new ideas but also re-visit some activities from earlier in the week.

Espresso Story – What’s Up?

Picture of the day: Here are some interesting cloud pictures for you to look at today. Hopefully they will make you smile! I wonder if they are all real clouds or are they just pictures? What shapes can you see? Which one do you like best?

For your writing challenge today, you could write a label for each picture. Start each sentence with This is a…….. or maybe I can see a………

Then you could write down which one you like best.

Maths: Numberblocks fun.

The episode to watch today is called Numberblock Castle. Talk about the episode as you watch.

Home Challenge: Why not try building your own Numberblock castle and draw a picture of it? You could add characters from the episode too.

Other Activities

Maths Fun: Get Creative

Make your own Numberblocks from anything you have to hand – modelling clay, yoghurt pots, paper and crayons, or even Numberblocks-shaped toast, cheese cubes or fruit. You could even create new Numberblocks for even bigger numbers and talk about what they might like to do. You could create a cloud world around them, using white paper or even cotton wool.

Drawing Challenges: Try one of these challenges today

Re-visit your drawing challenge from earlier this week – draw and imagine a world in the clouds and draw this on cloud-shaped paper. You could also use the white paper cut and stick activity alongside this to create a fantastic cloudy picture.

Or you could have fun with white-themed drawing. Just choose some blue paper to draw on and white drawing tools (pencil crayon, wax crayon, chalk, pastel). Just leave them out and see what they come up with!

Getting Outside

You might get some rain showers today – that’s good news for the plants in my garden! Try some of these rainy day activities outside.

Get arty:
Make chalk drawings on the pavement – it works really well on wet ground.

It’s also fun to create land art with wet leaves, sticks and other natural items.

Catch raindrops.
Use a plastic tray or jar to catch raindrops. Make it a game to see who can catch the most water the fastest. Can you  try catching raindrops on your tongue, too!

Listen to the sounds of rain.
Spend a few minutes just listening to the sounds of the weather. Set out various objects (like metal, plastic and glass containers) to see how water droplets sound when they hit different surfaces.

As it’s Funny Friday, lets have some fun with the Sticky Kids.
