Friday 30th April – spellings to be tested Friday 7th May

Spellings

This week we are learning our Year 1 common exception word spellings. Lots of us are very good at reading these words by sight which is brilliant – this will hopefully help with the spelling of them. If your child is confident spelling the word on its own please support them to apply the word in a sentence as this is often when the spelling is incorrect.

Maths

This week in Maths we have been looking at half. We have been looking at half of objects and shapes as well as half of an amount.

Please support at home using objects. We know that finding half means that we need to share into 2 equal groups. One of these groups is half. You could put this into a number story and use objects to support, for example…

There are 12 marbles in the shop. Miss Curtis buys half. How many does she buy?
