Reading
This week is a little different as we were not in school for our Little Wandle reading sessions.
Your child has bought home a reading for pleasure book from the library and has kept their learning to read book. We will be back to our usual routine next week.
Please continue to read and share stories at home and record this in your child’s reading record.
Spellings
We are continuing to learn words taken from the Year 1 National Curriculum. These are ‘common exception’ words that your child is expected to be able to spell independently in their writing by the end of Year 1. You will notice that some of these words your child is familiar with from Reception. Please practise writing the words below together.
We will ‘test’ these spellings next Friday. The scores will be in your child’s reading record for you to see and to continue practising any words that they need further support with. We will continue to learn these words in Year 1 using our spelling list to support when writing.
This weeks words are..

Maths
Our first unit this half term is all about numbers within 20. Below are some simple activities that will help your child with their new learning… you do not need to record these unless you want too.
- Use the number line that your child bought home previously to practise counting forwards and backwards within 20 starting and finishing on any given number.
- Ask your child to tell you one more and/ or one less than a given number. For example what is 1 more than 12.
- Tell your child a number, can they draw or collect that amount of objects. Focusing on the ‘11,12’ and then the ‘teen’ numbers.
- Write down 4 numbers in order, can you write the next 3 numbers in the sequence.
- Say a number and ask your child to write it down – it is essential that teen numbers are written correctly e.g can you write thirteen. It must looking like ’13’ and not ’31’. If your child is writing these numbers in the wrong order it is really important to correct them as we will be focusing on how the ‘one’ represents ten and looking at teen numbers as ’10 and how many more’.
