English task
This week we are starting an exciting new topic called ‘The Elves and the Shoemaker.’ This is a well known story that some of you may already know.
Today, we would like you to read the story using this link Day 1. After reading it once, try reading it again to someone else. Then, talk to them about the story. You could use the questions from ‘Likes, dislikes, patterns and puzzles’ to structure your discussion. (Was there anything you liked about the story? Was there anything you didn’t like about the story? Did you spot any patterns in the story? Was there anything that puzzled you or anything you didn’t understand in the story?)
Then, we would like you to have a go at drawing a story map for the story. Remember, you don’t need to draw a picture for every word, just a picture to represent the main parts of the story that will help you to retell it.
You’re very creative story mappers Class Two so go for it! We can’t wait to see the finished product.
Arithmetic task
On Friday this week, you will be asked to count on in 3s, writing out each multiple of 3 from 3 to 36.
So today, we would like you to go to the ‘Splat Square’
https://www.primarygames.co.uk/pg2/splat/splatsq100.html
and count and highlight every third number.
Look at the numbers you’ve highlighted. These numbers are multiples of 3 and are in the 3 times table. What numbers can you see? Can you see a pattern? Try to become familiar with these numbers.
Also visit TT rockstars if you have time as we’re still competing!
Maths task
This week we are starting a new unit in maths and it’s all about Volume.
It’s Chapter 15 and starts on page 179 of the Maths No Problem Textbook.
We would like you to look at Lesson 1 on page 180 which is all about being able to compare and order volume and record the results using >, < and = signs.
Start by talking to someone about the ‘In Focus’ task. Then read through the ‘Let’s Learn’ section to see how the Maths No Problem children compared the volume in each container.
Then, work your way through the ‘Guided Practice’ section of the lesson, talking to someone about it and explaining your answers.
Finally, complete Worksheet 1 on pages 155-156 of the Workbook.
INFORMATION ABOUT MATHS LATER THIS WEEK – We would really like you to get ‘hands on’ with Volume later this week so, in order to do this, please keep/start to make a little collection of containers that hold large amounts i.e. 1 litre and more, as well as smaller containers that measure volume in millilitres, so you are able to do this. Many thanks.
