Reading

It is still important to read at home. 10 – 15 minutes each day will continue to make a big difference to your child’s reading. If you would like to swap your books please email Mrs Woods who will arrange this for you.

Her email address is    cwood@southill.dorset.sch.uk

English/Topic

Well done – you have finished you fact file! They look absolutely brilliant. Today’s actvitiy is desgined to show off all of your new learning.

Can you write a quiz to ask one of your family members. Your questions need to focus on all of the facts you have learnt about different classifications of animals over the past few weeks.

You might like to focus on true or false questions, but it is up to you. I would aim for between 5-10 questions, again, this is up to you – just do what you can. There are some examples below.

  1. Mammals breathe air.                                        True  or False
  2. Reptiles have fluffy skin.                                   True or False
  3. Amphibians can live on land and water.        True or False

Art – animal theme!

Below you can see some different types of animal art. Choose your favourite animal that you have learnt about recentlly, do you like amphibians the best? If you do why not focus your art on frogs. Perhaps your favourite animals are birds, you could focus on one of the birds that cannot fly – the Ostrich or the penguin. Have a go at home at creating some animal art of your own. You might just use pencil and focus on lines and shading. You could use bold colours for effect like in the giraffe image. It is completely up to you – lets get creative!

Maths No Problem  – you will notice that we have missed a few sessions. There are heavily focused around maths resources that we use in school. Please don’t wory about trying to replicate this at home. Move straight into the lesson explained below…

In Focus – page 77. Look at the 100 square together ask your child to to find number pattern in the yellow boxes. Prompt them with incorrect ideas, such as the yellow numbers are going up by 10 every time. Is this correct? Discuss this and come up with solutions. Together identify the obvious patterns, such as going up by one every time, or going down by one every time, the ‘tens’ stays the same, and so on.

Now use your 100 square that was sent home, colour in you own squares follwing the same pattern on your own 100 square. Do not colour in the Maths No Problem textbook.

Lets learn-  Look at the lets learn together. Focus on ‘tens’ and ‘ones’. Make sure your child can see that it is going up by ‘one’ each time and that the ‘ ones’ column is changing. It is not one lot of 10.

Guided practice – work through together, you can use your 100 sqaure for support.

Only move onto the workbook if your child is confident with the concept – if not continue with the activity and guided practise. We all learn at different rates so please do not worry.

Workbook – complete work book page 90.
