Reading

It is still important to read at home. 10 – 15 minutes each day will continue to make a big difference to your child’s reading. If you would like to swap your books please email Mrs Woods who will arrange this for you.

Her email address is    cwood@southill.dorset.sch.uk

English / Topic

I really hope that you enjoyed watching the ‘Amphibians’ video yesterday and having a go at the little quiz. Your fact files are looking great!

Today we are looking at ‘Birds’

What the clips in the link below..

Follow the same structure that you used yesterday to create the next page in your Fact File!

Maths No Problem  – Fractions

In Focus – page 60. Making quarters. Start with a rectangular piece of paper. Pretend that it is a birthday cake, can you split it equally between 4 people by folding. Introduce the language of ‘fourth’ and ‘quarter’ to them by asking how many ‘fourths’ or ‘quarters’ make up one whole. As 4 ‘fourths’ or ‘quarters’ make up the whole, each person will get 1 of the 4, which is a ‘fourth’ or a ‘quarter’.

Lets learn and Guided practice- Here you are reinforcing their understanding of quarters, i.e. each person gets exactly the same amount. It is great here if you can get the children to cut out their own versions of the examples shown, they can then physically move these around whilst thinking about if all of the parts are equal.

Only move onto the workbook if your child is confident with the concept – if not continue with the activity and guided practise. We all learn at different rates so please do not worry.

Workbook – complete work book pages 69 and 70. At school the children would try to work through these questions independently with an adult to guide them through what the question is asking for, reading when needed and modelling where to write the answers. If you are able to support this at home that would be great, the aim here is for children to apply the skills they have just practised.

There will be no home learning tomorrow as it is Bank Holiday!

Happy 3 day weekend!!!
