Phonics
Today’s sound to recap is /oy/. This is a digraph which means two letters working together to make one sound. The O and the Y making the /oy/ sound is usually seen at the end of words.
Visit phonics play https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk you will find the game ‘Picnic on Pluto’ in the ‘free phonics play’ section. Click on ‘Phase 5’ which is down the side of the screen on a pink tab and then scroll down to the game ‘Picnic on Pluto’ you then need to select ‘Phase 5’ again and it will ask you to choose your sound. Today choose ‘oy’. We have played this at school so the children will be familiar with it.
Next Segment and write these words together…. boy toy ahoy destroy
Finally write a silly sentence using these words. For example, The boy will destroy the toy! Focus on applying capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. You could even use an exclamation mark!

Maths No Problem -Multiplication
In Focus task – page 42 textbook. Look at the image, talk about how the rows are equal and there are 6 cookies in each row. Ask them if this is similar to three groups of 6 cookies. Ask if that might be helpful for counting. Also prompt them to see that the cookies are grouped in threes as well. How many groups of threes are there? Would that be helpful for counting?
‘If there are 3 cookies in 1 row, how many would there be in 2 rows? And in 3 rows?’ and so on. Next look at the pictures of the toy soldiers and ask them similar questions about the different ways of counting them. Follow on with the same phrasing: ‘If there are 10 in 1 row, how many would there be in 2 rows’ and so on.
Lets Learn and Guided practice – work through these questions together. Again you will see these focus on use of vocabulary and verbalising thought processes. There is an activity focused on making equal rows to try.
Only move onto the workbook if your child is confident with the concept – if not continue with the activity and guided practise. We all learn at different rates so please do not worry.
Workbook – complete pages 42 – 43. ‘Worksheet 3 Making Equal Row’. At school the children would try to work through these questions independently with an adult to guide them through what the question is asking for, reading when needed and modelling where to write the answers. If you are able to support this at home that would be great, the aim here is for children to apply the skills they have just practised.
