English task – The Elves and the Shoemaker
For today’s English task, we would like you to have a go at answering Pepper the Elf’s questions in the following link Day 3.
Try to answer each question with a sentence and keep looking back at the story and using words from the story to help. The Story
Write and draw your answers in your writing book.
Arithmetic task
Yesterday you wrote your multiples of 3 on individual pieces of paper. Today, we would like you to use these to play a game with someone at home.
First, put your multiples of 3 in order from 3 to 36. Count up to check you have arranged them correctly.
Then, randomly turn over 6 of the cards so you can no longer see the numbers.
Next, take it in turns to say the number you think is on one of the hidden number cards and turn it over to check. If you are correct you score a point and play passes to the next person. If you are incorrect, the other player gets the point.
Who can collect the most points by the time all of the cards have been turned over?
To increase the challenge, begin the game with more hidden numbers.
Maths task
Here are the answers to yesterday’s worksheet pages.
Today we would like you to look at Lesson 3 on page 187 of the Maths No Problem Textbook. It’s all about being able to measure volume in litres and to find out whether an amount is more than, less than or equal to a litre.
For today’s lesson, it would be ideal to have a measuring jug or cylinder which has litres marked, otherwise a container that has a capacity of 1 litre would also work.
Start by talking to someone about the ‘In Focus’ task. Then read through the ‘Let’s Learn’ section to see how the Maths No Problem children measured the volume of each container.
Please then have a go at the ‘Activity Time’ task if you are able to, using a measuring jug or 1 litre container to find out if the volume of other containers is more than, less than or about 1 litre. Try to make a prediction (a sensible guess) before you measure each volume.
Finally, complete Worksheet 3 on pages 159-161 of the Workbook.
