A Race to Create a Database

A Race to Create a Database

In computing this half term, we have been exploring and learning about databases. We began in our first session by discussing what a database is. We then looked at the components of a database, looking at the various pieces of information and how they are categorized into fields. The children were given blank pieces of paper and required to come up with fields in order to categorise various animals into a database that was in alphabetical order. It was amazing seeing the children working together in order to arrange their databases in various ways.

This week, the children then looked at how databases can be created far more quickly by using a computer. Using a program called ‘Just2Easy’, the children chose a topic of interest in order to create a database from scratch. From famous popstars to premier league football teams, deadly predators to Harry Potter characters, the children LOVED creating their very own databases on the Chrome books.

Well done, Year 5!
