Earlier this week, Year 6 were very excited to create some Arctic and Antarctic artwork as a part of our ‘Frozen Kingdoms’ topic.
They were given half a photograph of an Arctic or Antarctic animal of their choice, and they were given the task of completing the other half of the photograph as accurately as possible. They had to think really carefully about symmetry and how they can use a ruler to make exact measurements of the photograph they had been given in order for their side of the drawing to look as realistic as possible. They also experimented with different art pencils to create the correct tones and textures for their animal.
I was so impressed with how much care and concentration went into each drawing and it was great to hear comments such as: ‘This is the best drawing I’ve ever done!’ and ‘I’m so proud of myself for persevering with this drawing!’.
Year 6 are really looking forward to tomorrow where they will get to share their artwork with their buddies (who have also created some fantastic penguin pictures!).
Well done, Year 6. What a fantastic lesson!
