As we delve into our third class book ‘Orphans of the Tide’, Year 6 are beginning to pick out and identify some similar themes across the books we have read. It has been really interesting to hear what connections they have made and the similarities they have identified. Here are some of the connections we have identified so far across our three class texts, Letters from the Lighthouse, Wild Spark and Orphans of the Tide:

• Each book has a female protagonist
• Wild Spark and Orphans of the Tide both contains characters who are unkind and disrespectful towards the protagonist
• Letters from the Lighthouse and Wild Spark both have a theme of ‘siblings’
• There is a theme of ‘secrets’ across the three books

Year 6 also loved their weekly visit to the library on Monday afternoon. This week, it was great to see them picking out a range of different books including picture books for their buddy or non-fiction texts to read alongside a storybook. We have also spent lots of time this week book buzzing the different books we have enjoyed reading this half term.
