Book Talk – The Dot
In Book Talk this week, we focused on a picture book called ‘The Dot’ by Peter H Reynolds. This tale is about a young girl called Vashti who loathes art! At the end of the class, after producing nothing, her teacher very calmly asked her to ‘Just make a mark and see where it takes you.’ After seeing her work put up on the wall in a golden frame, Vashti felt determined to do better…
It is a really incredible story with an excellent message. We discussed how this story links to our learning powers and Vashti demonstrated resilience, reflectiveness and resourcefulness at different points in the story. After listening to the text, the children then had a go at some comprehension questions (some children even had a go at the book quiz on Star Reader).
Well done, Year 4. I wonder what book we will talk about next week?
