Book Week 2024

World Book Day is nearly here but at Southill Primary we love to share a whole week of booky brilliance!

This year, we asked children to choose a selection of activities they’d like included to help celebrate this special week.  You’ll find their choices below, alongside a fun timetable of events with so much to look forward to

📙 Reading Champions will lead their very own special assembly to launch Book Week on Monday.

📘 Our Library will be OPEN after school every day, everyone is welcome so come join us!

📕 A Year 6 team will take part in the National Literacy Trust Reading Championships on Tuesday. Good luck all!

📗 We’ve some excellent online poetry events for everyone, delivered by Pat Ryan (Reception-Year 4) and Adisa (Year 5-6)

📙 We’ll welcome some special guest readers to Year 3 on Wednesday.

📘 Dress up as your favourite book character on Thursday! Our Reading Champs were keen to reintroduce this element, however there is no pressure to join in.  You’ll find a helpful World Book Day official Dressing Up Resources on their website, which include handmade elements such as character masks and badges.

📕 Create a Story Hat and wear it to school on Thursday! This is another optional element but there will be prizes available for the most creative creations! You could decorate a hat you have already or make yourself a crown from paper or card and decorate it to represent your favourite book or character. Go crazy – the possibilities are endless!

📗 All children will ‘Take 10 to Read‘ every day in class, so make sure you always have your reading book with you

📙 On Thursday we’ll enjoy a World Book Day Fitness Thursday special!  Watch this space …

We’ll share a BOOKFLIX @Bedtime story read by a member of our staff on Thursday at 6:30pm. Who will our mystery storyteller be? Don’t miss it!

📸 Send us a Reading Selfie – snap a pic of yourself reading at home (or at a friend’s house, an after school club, the park, or the zoo!) and send it over to us during Book Week.  We’ll feature a selection across our media channels and interactive screens throughout the week – but they’ll also be showcased for all to see at our special events on Friday …

🍽️ Come along to our Big Booky Breakfast on Friday morning at 8.00am – bring your latest read while tucking into a bacon/veggie butty! Food choices will need to be pre-ordered, so look out for a School Ping coming home very soon. We’d love to see you there!

📘 Classes are invited to BOOK SWAP sessions on Friday, kindly organised by FOSS.  Donations can be brought into school Monday-Thursday, all children will have the opportunity to choose a book to take home

📕 Also coming home – children have pre-chosen their free World Book Day titles and will collect these here at school during the week.

📗 Our Celebration Assembly on Friday will celebrate Readers of the Week.  A great time to recognise significant reading achievements!
