During June (which is Pride month) I led an assembly all about Pride; what it is and why it is celebrated around the world particularly in June. We found out about the origins of the rainbow flag by reading Pride: The Story of Harvey Milk. This book is in our library now.
After the assembly, some children told me that they had spotted lots of Pride flags out and about and asked if we could have a rainbow flag in our hall. Today the flag has arrived and is now proudly (π) displayed in our hall.
I asked the children why they felt it was important. They said …
“Because it’s important to celebrate all our differences.”
“It shows we respect everyone.”
“Here, you can be who you want to be.”
“Everyone is welcome here”
“You can love whoever you want.”
I know I’m biased and I think Southill pupils are the best but don’t think I’ve ever been prouder of them than I was today.

I love how everyone respects each other in our school and they donβt judge on other peopleβs differences
