Colourful Computing!

As part of our Computing project ‘Creating Media’ we have been looking at how text and images can be changed on a computing device to communicate more clearly. During our first lesson we looked through a range of signs  including road and toilet signs. We then picked out the reasons why they were an effective or ineffective form of communication. The children came up with some brilliant ideas such as road signs displaying only an image could be used because when you drive past it could be too quick to be able to read the sign but it’s easier and quicker to recognise an image if it is clear, big and bold.

The children then experimented with desktop publishing (creating documents with text and images) to create their own party invite. They thought about the  layout of their invite and learnt how to change the font, size and colour of the text. They also learnt how to change the background colour to ensure their designs were bright, bold and easy to read.

In yesterday’s lesson they built on their desktop publishing skills and learnt how to insert images to a document and create their own versions of front covers to books they have enjoyed reading. We then added these book recommendations to our book corner in the classroom. They look fantastic!

  2. I am so glad you enjoyed our computing lessons Ella :). Don’t worry this was our last lesson of this half term, we will be starting a new computing project after half term so you won’t be waiting much longer!
