Day Two in Lively London
Body clocks were a little out this morning as the children rose very bright and EARLY from their beds, excited for yet another action-packed day in the capital city. After a delicious full English breakfast, fresh croissants and a variety of cereals, the children were ready for the off!
Our first stop was the Shakespeare Globe where we compared this historic building to the theatre we visited yesterday. It was fascinating to learn about why the Globe had no roof, how they created sound effects for the play and how much tickets would have cost (depending on where you were stood/sat). The children then crossed the road and entered a studio room where they participated in different drama activities, focusing on how to move their bodies to portray different characters and use expression in their voices when acting. It was great listening to the children confidently talking about their knowledge of Shakespeare and some of his infamous plays (especially Romeo and Juliet).
In the afternoon, we crossed the Thames to have a bite to eat before then participating in a tour of The Tower of London. Our guide (Henry VIII’s sixth wife Catherine Parr) was incredible! She taught us a great deal about her husband Henry VIII, his other wives and why they all ought to be remembered. We came away from the tour filled with fascinating facts. The kids then had the chance to go and see the Crown Jewels and look at the other exhibits the Tower of London had to offer.
It is safe to say that the children have found the amount of walking required a bit of a challenge, however they have remained resilient and we were able to safely arrive back at our hostel in time for our dinner. With our bellies full, some of the children ventured out of the hostel one final time to visit the shop in order to spend their remaining pennies. Others decided to spend their final night chilling in their rooms, playing some games and unwinding after a very busy couple of days. The kids are now all getting into their pj’s and they are ready for a good night’s sleep before our final day!
We will see you tomorrow!
