Designing a Game
This afternoon, the children began to brush up on their computing skills. Our aim was to use the programming website Scratch in order to create a game using code.
In previous weeks, we explored how to use code in order to make pictures and animate sprites. Today, we began by evaluating a game called ‘Bat Catcher’. It used various sprites and repetitions in order to create an interactive and engaging game that involved the player to click the various sprites as they flashed up onto the screen. The children selected the key parts of the code used to create the game and then developed their very own design. From farmyard themes to space, under the sea to a basketball court, we certainly had a variety of games on show!
The children thoroughly enjoyed this task. Some even began to explore using sound effects and timers for their game. The children finished by playing one another’s games in order to see what other people had created.
