Another amazing week of science and geography in Year 5 this week, starting with a brilliant lesson dissecting daffodils to really see and explore parts of a plant. It was a fabulous experience to be able to see the filaments, stigma and ovules up close and record our own understanding of the reproductive parts of a plant – this helps us understand how flowering plants reproduce clearly. Have a look and see how we got on!

To help us understand the reproduction of asexual pants a bit clearer, this week we have begun our planting projects! We were really resourceful with our learning partners and worked together to plan scientific observations and measurements we could make when growing our own plants.

We have planted:

• potatoes – tubers
• strawberry plant – runner
• onions – bulbs

We have also planted beans to compare growth with a flowering plant, great scientific planning Year 5!

To continue our planting project, we have also had a think about seasonality and which fruit and veg we could grow at school! Some things we could grow now, and some we could grow in the summer term. We used a seasonality chart to help us plan out our year and have worked together to fill in our own seasonality plan for our school planting beds. Watch this space for news of Year 5 produce soon!
