Year 5 became ‘Fire Investigator Officers’ for the afternoon as we had a visit from Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service.
We learnt so much and are exploding with facts about fire and hot to stay safe such as…
*for a fire to burn, it needs fuel, heat and oxygen
*working smoke alarms help save lives
*we should not buy cheap electrical devices or plugs that don’t have the CE mark on them as these can cause fire
*its a good idea to plan different exit route from our houses in case we need to get out in a hurry
*don’t overload extension leads and plugs. If the item you plug in moves (washing machine / tumble drier) or heats up (iron / hair straighteners), it is best to plug it into a single plug in the wall as they use a lot of electricity.
We needed to write a fire investigation report and completed some excellent detective work. We have learnt lots that we can all put in place to help us stay safe.
