Yes, that’s right! Forest School indoors. As it was too windy for us to be outside and stay safe for our session today (winds over 50kmp), we needed to batten down the hatches and get down to indoor Forest School! A lot of flexibility and improvisation was needed!
First up …. knots! We learnt to tie a timber hitch which is a great knot for tying up tarps and hammocks. Today, our ‘trees’ were the uprights on the climbing frame! When we got the hang of tying it, we peer taught someone else. Next we split into two teams and tried out our new skills and put up a tarp and hammock. The hammock was a little low! We reflected on how we could make it work next week. We also learnt how to pack away the equipment neatly so that it doesn’t get broken. The hammock took four attempts to get into the bag – great perseverance and determination shown by 5 children! Well done!!
Some of used the drill to made the flat packed bird table ready to go out near the pond whilst others made a ‘God’s Eye’ using sticks and wool. We will finish these next week.
When the wind calmed down at about 2.50, we put out a feast for the birds. We will be watching closely to see if any birds visit our bird feeder and newly build bird table. We are hoping to attract some wildlife and get to spot some in action.
Although we had great fun inside, we are hoping for the wind to be kind to us next week as we REALLY missed being outside. Everyone would like to try den building in the woods!
Fingers crossed for den building in the woods! How resourceful of you all to bring Forest School inside. Looks amazing 🤩
