We had nature’s sprinkler today as the rain lashed down whilst we sat in our ‘Magic Spots’. Here we used our senses to listen to the wind an the rain. Then was a rather wet and muddy game of Stealth! There was some brilliant hiding and wonderful support for one an other.
Mrs Butler found some sycamore seeds and we discussed why it is good for the seeds to use their helicopter wings to be dispersed as far away as possible from the parent tree. Was it better to be a smaller seed with a small wing span, or a larger seed with a larger wing span? We investigated! It turns out, the larger seeds can be dispersed further away from the parent plane!
Then the sun started shining but the most popular activity of the afternoon was den building in the woods. Two dens were constructed on the slopes using tarps, paracord and sticks.
Bug were found and tiny newts discovered! That mean that the newts are breeding in our pond!! How exciting! We also had a go at playing someone’s game that they made up and led.
We had such fun in both the rain and in the sun!
Remember – no Forest School next week, but it will be on the last week of term (19/7/2023)
